November 8th, 2016

November 8th, 2016. I am 47 years old and I’ve seen a lot — not as much as some, but more than others younger than I. And this election year has been the most interesting, hard-fought, tug-of-war in the spirit that I have ever witnessed.

And today, a winner is announced.

But who is the winner, really? The honest answer is: every person in Christ.

For those who put their trust in God will still do so tomorrow, regardless of the winner. We will still pray and make a stand for what is right and good in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. We will call upon the God of our salvation again and again. Our hope and trust is IN HIM ALONE.

BUT THIS TRUTH REMAINS TODAY (and why our VOTE is so important): “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).

Righteousness. The word that sums up everything God is, what He has given to man, and what He will be looking for at His return. In the gospel of Christ, the “righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith…” (Romans 1:16-17), which is the message of love (but not acceptance of all things) and the message of the cross (but not the hatred that hung Him there).

Righteousness is the sum total of God’s desire and God’s direction for man. And like a suitcase, it is more than one thing. It HOLDS everything that we need. Bought with the precious blood of Jesus, righteousness clothes those who have called on God for salvation, confessing their sins and recognizing their need for a Savior.

This is me. This is you. This is the righteousness of God in Christ. And righteousness exalts a nation. May we continue to stand up for everything righteous. May we defend our good Father, His Name, His Word, and His Spirit. May we hunger and thirst for righteousness like never before. May we see His kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…
