He makes all things new. I can’t get away from this theme. As I heard this rolling around in my heart, I had to pause and meditate on it because there’s so much in this small statement.
Our Father God, the Creator of heaven and earth, is the One who makes (produces, assembles, bringing things together perfectly) all things new. This would include situations and circumstances that are hard.
The Bible says, “all things work together for the good of those who love God” (Romans 8:28). So whatever category “all things” fall under, we can trust God is involved. In other words, He’s not absent or aloof. He is ever-present and ever-ready.
Never Existed Before
But it’s the word new that I want to focus on. Depending on the use of this word, it could describe something that’s never existed before. But it could also describe something that’s been revitalized, refreshed, or renewed.
In Isaiah, the Lord said, “Do not remember the past events; pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert” (43:18-19). Without a doubt, this was a foreshadowing of our salvation. Paul said, “If anyone is in Christ, he is [now] a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
But the Word of God is prophetic, meaning it is ever-living and can be applied to us today as much as it was for those who first heard it. God’s Word will never pass away. Every promise is as prevalent to our generation as to any former day or time.
“Do not remember the past events;
pay no attention to things of old.
Look, I am about to do something new;
Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert.”
Steps of Faith
These are steps for us to follow and faith for us to cling to. Do not (I repeat, do not) dwell on the past. The New Living Translation says, “Forget all that– it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.” By faith, we can believe this promise. No matter what track record you’ve had in the past, God is well able to make all things new in your life.
The Amplified says, “Do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it?” This challenges and encourages me at the same time because I realize the Spirit of God is looking for faith. Do I (you) believe God is good? Will we choose to believe His Word over our circumstances or feelings? If we will, He can do something great and NEW.
I love the imagery He gives us following this declaration: “Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.” Life can often feel chaotic and muddied. But God promises to make a way, clearing a path for us, right in the middle of wastelands. And to what once seemed dry and dead, He will give new life!
He makes all things new.
David said it so well in his Psalm: “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” (23:1-3).
He makes all things new.
He restores your soul.
He will lead you through.
If we’ll believe it and look for it, new things are on the horizon. Please know the Lord can be trusted.
