Eternity Will Tell Us

As I sat and listened to my husband preach this weekend, I took notes like usual. But mid sentence of writing down “Do you realize…” the Holy Spirit finished the sentence differently than what I was hearing with my natural ears.

I wrote: Do you realize eternity will tell us the rest of the story?

I have to put this in context. Romans 8:28 says, ”And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.“ In other words, no matter what challenge you are facing, you and I can be assured God is working things out (because we love Him). And this is why Paul was confident when he told the Corinthians: ”Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬-‭18‬).

Don’t be moved by what you see.

God is working behind the scenes in the “unseen” realm. And this is why faith is so important. The Bible says the carnal man (or natural man) looks only at what is seen with the physical eyes. But the man or woman of faith knows better.

God is moving in ways you cannot see and the results are coming! Your confidence in this comes straight from God’s own word. He desires to ”make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ…” (Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭21‬). Not only is He working IN you, but He is working FOR you— on your behalf.

And thank God! When you and I understand this, the pressure to perform is removed. When we cling to God’s Word and put our trust in His ability, peace and rest follow us.

Do you realize eternity will tell the rest of the story?

We can’t see the angels ministering on our behalf.
We can’t see the details of our miracle being woven together.
We can’t (naturally) see what all has been going on behind the scenes, but Heaven can.

I don’t think we fully understand what Paul was trying to communicate to us when he said, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things” (Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭31‬-‭32‬)?

Paul was convinced. ”For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭38‬-‭39‬). In other words, God is working it out!

We don’t have to know how. We just have to believe— and act like God’s Word is true! I’m here to tell you: Eternity will tell the rest of the story. Your current situation is only PART of the story. Thank God for HIS part! Trust Him. Trust His Word. Keep your heart and faith fixed on His faithfulness. There’s more to your story than what it looks like right now.
