We used to live in a house that had a cranky screen door. The spring was loose so every time you’d attempt to close it, the door would creak and slam startling everyone in the house. After awhile, we got a new screen door with full glass and a self-adjusting spring. It was much nicer and very quiet to close. The only problem was, the spring was slow-action and if you didn’t pay attention, it might not close behind you.
The door looked good, but all kinds of critters could come in, not to mention our air-conditioning could just blow right out. Now someone was always yelling, “Close the door!”
This is similar to what happens when people forget to pray.
Everything can look good and seem fine, but the enemy only needs a crack to come through. So I am reminding you today: “Keep the door closed!”
The Book of Judges reminds us what can happen when a generation is lost. After the death of Joshua and his generation,“…another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which he had done for [them]” (Judges 2:10).
The United States of America was founded on prayer. As a nation founded on God and His Word, the relationship we have with God through prayer is essential to our success. Not to mention, it is a privilege to pray and commune with our Heavenly Father on a regular basis. And just as important, it is wise to keep the door closed to the enemy. The Corinthians had to be reminded also. Paul told them, “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3).
The enemy doesn’t need much to distract us.
Our ever-growing world of technology keeps our little minds busy and entertained. So much so, if we’re unaware, we may just forget to “Be still and know God” (Psalm 46:10).
No matter where we live, it is prudent for us to pray in faith to the God of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are believers, not beggars, so our prayers are based on confidence that He hears us when we pray. I also believe prayer is God’s way of partnering with His people, which is why I love this statement: Touching Heaven, Changing Earth. This is what prayer means to me.
My prayer today is that you will keep the door closed to the enemy and not let a generation arise after you who does not know the Lord.
