My Prayer for Healing

With any kind of sickness (big or small), I always remember my prayer for healing works on this principle:

Natural + Supernatural = Work Together

Too often, we rely on one or the other (most people leaning only on the natural). But as Christians, you and I are spirit beings living in a physical body. We are filled with the Spirit of the Living God although our bodies are subjected to this natural world. I love what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:7, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” This scripture perfectly describes the natural and supernatural working together.

With that said, I want to share with you my favorite healing scripture based on this principle. Romans 8:11 says, “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” If I was standing in the same room with you right now, I’d say “Pinch your neighbor.” In other words, pinch your mortal body.

Too often, people have been misled into thinking healing (or this scripture) only refers to our heavenly home — the ultimate healing we’ll receive after we die. But Paul was very clear here that there is healing NOW for our natural (mortal) bodies.

The Spirit is Life.

Look again at Romans 8. But go up one verse this time… “And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness” (2 Corinthians 8:10). We all know this natural body is dying. It started on it’s journey towards death soon after we were born. This is the result of sin. And this is why people understand that in Heaven we won’t face death any longer. We’ll have heavenly (glorified) bodies free from sin, but here in this life, “the body is dead because of sin…” However, the same scripture says “the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” The word life here is the Greek word zoe, which describes the God-kind of life, or a better translation here is eternal life. In other words, “If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is eternal because of righteousness.”

This is all good, but…

How does it help us with healing?

Let’s read these two verses together:“And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

The promise is found in the “But if…” In other words, the body may be prone to die and it’s true that Christians will live forever in eternity because of righteousness, BUT IF the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you (which, if you’re a Christian, He does), then He will GIVE LIFE to your MORTAL BODY.

Did you catch that?

God is so wonderful to clarify in His Word that He has given us help despite the attacks these bodies might face. I like to say it this way: If the Holy Spirit could raise Jesus from the dead, and I’m not dead, then surely He can drive out my symptoms of sickness and disease!

My prayer today is that you will cling to these promises no matter what you may be facing. If God can quicken a mortal body from death to life, then He can definitely quicken, strengthen, and give LIFE to your body that’s under attack. So make Romans 8:11 your healing confession. Quote it often. Make it personal. Don’t stop until you see your body whole.

Here’s how I pray over myself:

Father, I thank you for salvation and I plead the blood of Jesus over this body and thank You Lord that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells richly inside of me to quicken my mortal body and drive out all trespassing symptoms of sickness and disease! I thank You Lord that by the stripes of Jesus, I am healed! No weapon formed against me shall prosper. Thank you Father for the promise that we can come boldly into Your throne of grace and ask for help in our time of need. You are good and Your mercy endures forever! I am the healed of the Lord. I boldly confess that by the stripes of Jesus I am healed. Amen.

This is my prayer for healing.

If you are battling any kind of sickness, use this prayer. It’s God’s Word and it’s God’s power. Don’t go by what you see or feel– stand on the promises of God until the devil is convinced you believe it!
