In 2010, we learned first-hand the importance of knowing and praying God’s Word over your situation. In fact, I believe it’s what saved our son’s life.
When he was given a 50/50 chance of survival after receiving 2nd and 3rd degree burns while trapped in an upside-down truck, it was God’s Word that rescued us all. First, His Word was a comfort to our hearts because we knew God’s promises on healing. And secondly, it was the fuel to our faith as we read 101 healing scriptures at his bedside every day.
In 1991, although I didn’t have a full revelation of God’s Word at the time, it was through the prayer of faith that I was saved. According to Romans 10:9-10, when you pray and confess your sins, believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord, you are saved. In essence, this is praying the Word.
In 1996, after my husband graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center, we prayed God’s Word concerning finances and provision and were led to move back to Texas. God answered our prayer and later that year our second son was born and I was able to work part-time and be home more than I was with our first child.
The list could go on and on…
My point is that there is power in praying God’s Word. He said it Himself. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
God said to pray. But pray what?
His Word.
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make ti bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, SO SHALL MY WORD BE that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:10-11).
In other words, the Bible is God talking to us. And God said “His Word” shall come to pass.
But… We, as children of faith, must activate His Word through prayer.
It’s no coincidence that Jesus said, “For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak” (John 12:49). Jesus understood the power of getting God’s Word on any matter. In the same way, when we get God’s Word and pray what He has said, we can have confidence in our prayers (in other words, faith).
Rodney Howard Browne said the Lord once told him, “My Word in your mouth is just as powerful as My Word in My mouth.”
So my challenge to you today is first, get God’s Word on the matter. And then second, pray God’s Word over the matter.
Whatever it is you are up against, God has scripture to help you. Find it. Believe it. Pray it.
