Remember, He Doesn’t Lie

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19).

I’ve looked at this scripture many times before. But recently, I considered it and thought about all the other scriptures this fulfills.

For example:

[This one is my favorite] “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Is God a liar? (Of course not).

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

Will He make this good? (Yes).

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

Would God make a promise like this, and then change His mind? (No).

We’ve all had people let us down, disappoint us, say one thing and then do another. But God isn’t like that. He’s not a human. He doesn’t have a sin nature like we do. HE’S GOD.

He can be trusted.

“The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever” (Psalm 119:160).

He will make good on His promises.

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

God never lies.

“This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised them before the world began” (Titus 1:2).

My point is that the world will let you down, but God won’t. The devil will lie to you (and use people), but God never will. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! When doubts, disillusionment, or anxiety try knocking on your door telling you this is it, this is how it’s always going to be… you don’t have to believe it.

Instead, BELIEVE GOD’S WORD.

Run to His Word and find His promises. Don’t be quick to believe your circumstances or your feelings. Instead, believe God! And remember, sincere people can be sincerely wrong. They might mean well when they tell you the trial you’re going through is just God’s way of teaching you something, but that doesn’t make it scriptural.

God doesn’t need to trash your life to teach you anything. He loves you. He wants to help you get through things, yes, but He’s not the author of chaos, confusion, disorder, pain, grief, or death. These are all contrary to His nature.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone… Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning” (James 1:13,16-17).

The Message Translation says it best: “There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.”

When you’re standing on ANY promise of God, remember He doesn’t lie!
