Healing comes in all shapes and sizes.
I’m always in awe of the care God puts into the tiniest details. People can receive healing of heart for their brokenness, healing of body for sickness and disease, and healing of mind for trouble and despair.
But one thing we need to be clear on: God didn’t “heal” our spirits. Our spirit was born-again, meaning it was created new.
Some people have misunderstood Bible passages on healing, thinking they only referred to our new birth–when God gave us a new heart (or spirit) like His. But Ezekiel says, “Then I will given them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God” (Ezekiel 11:19-20).
Our old, rotten heart was hard. God gave us new hearts that are pliable (clay in the Potter’s hand). This wasn’t an act of healing. The Bible says He took the stony heart out (and threw it away), and in its place, gave us a new heart.
The reason I am sharing this is because I don’t want the enemy lying to anyone who is need of healing by convincing them scriptures on healing are only referring to our spiritual re-birth.
Wrong!
The Bible says, “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Let’s be clear, by His blood you were given a new pliable heart; but by His stripes you were healed (mental, physical, and/or emotional).
I love that Peter said, “By whose stripes you WERE healed.” This is not an exact quote of Isaiah 53, which says, “…by His stripes we ARE healed” (verse 5).
As a prophet, Isaiah was looking AHEAD to the cross where Jesus would accomplish all these things for us. But Peter, on the other hand, looking at the same thing, had to look BACK to the place where Jesus purchased our salvation and healing–at the cross.
So let me say it this way: If you were healed at the cross, then you ARE healed. “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38).
The simple truth is this: Healing is good because the devil is bad. Jesus had an assignment to heal all who were oppressed by the devil. Nothing’s changed today. Jesus offers salvation, and then healing.
If you’re emotions, body, or mind is under attack, look to the cross. If symptoms are persisting, look to the cross.
God gave you a new heart (a new spirit) when you were born-again. And then He provided help for the “container” of your spirit. So… LOOK TO THE CROSS.
