I Know Why I’m Excited

Has someone ever said to you, “I know what you’re thinking…” Husbands and wives do this all the time. And to some extent, they’re telling the truth. They’ve lived together so long, they have a pretty good idea what’s running through the other’s head.

Twins are said to have a similar connection also. They can finish each other’s sentences, or even have a sense of feeling the other’s pain, joy, or emotions.

But in reality, who can know what’s going on inside a person, except that person?

No one.

We are individually created with our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. This is why scripture says, “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him” (1 Corinthians 2:11a)? Another translation says, “Who ever knows what you’re thinking and planning except you yourself?”

The answer is of course, no one.

And that’s what makes this next bit of revelation so astounding! The rest of verse 11 says, “Even so no one knows the the things of God except the Spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:11b). True? If we can’t really know what another person is thinking or feeling, wouldn’t this be true of God also?

Yes, absolutely. But wait…

“The same is [true] with God–except that He not only knows what He’s thinking, but He lets us in on it” (1 Corinthians 2:12, Message). When God gave us the Holy Spirit, He gave us access to His every thought, feeling, and purpose–on everything!

“Now we have received not the spirt [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God” (Amplified).

In other words, when you read God’s Word (which is His thoughts written out on paper), you also have the unique ability to understand and comprehend MORE than what you’re eyes are reading word-for-word. You can actually feel and comprehend the meaning behind every word–with the exact passion and emphasis in which God said it–as if you were in His head knowing what He was thinking.

This is why unbelievers think you’re crazy for getting excited about the things of God. “The natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated” (1 Corinthians 2:14, AMP).

Did you catch that last word? Appreciated. When you get excited about the things of God, it’s because you not only feel the same emotions God has about it, but you actually have the ability to appreciate what God is doing! We could accurately say, you feel what God feels, you think as He thinks, and you are as excited as He is!

But the world won’t get this… but don’t worry about that. “For if we are beside ourselves [mad, as some say], it is for God and concerns Him; if we are in our right mind, it is for [their] benefit” (2 Corinthians 5:13, AMP).

I’m so thankful God has given me His Spirit, and the ability to comprehend, understand, and literally feel His passion. I wouldn’t trade it for anything! How about you?
